Asked at the Desk, Answered in Full
If yours is not here, phone the studio. Somebody who runs a bay will pick up during posted hours.
How long does a session take, honestly?
A single category runs seventy-five to a hundred minutes and we do not overbook the bay, so it ends when it ends rather than when the next person arrives. Top of bag is around two hours. The full bag review is a genuine three hours and people underestimate that one constantly — bring water and expect a break in the middle.
I am a beginner. Is a fitting wasted on me?
It is the opposite. A beginner swinging a club that is two degrees too upright will build a compensation to fix the resulting pull, and that compensation becomes a habit within a season. Set the geometry correctly at the start and there is nothing to unlearn. Beginner sessions are usually shorter and cheaper because the answer is often simply length and lie.
Do you fit left-handed golfers?
Yes, and we hold left-handed demo heads across every category rather than ordering them in. Left-handed golfers are used to being told to try the right-handed version and imagine, which is not fitting.
Why does an indoor bay give real numbers?
Because we are measuring the club and the strike, not guessing at where a ball landed. Face angle, face to path, closure rate and impact position are all measured at contact and are unaffected by whether the ball then flies fifteen feet or two hundred yards. Carry figures are the part that needs an outdoor sanity check, and we say so when it matters.
My clubs are old. Is there any point?
Frequently there is a great deal of point. Older forged irons bend beautifully, and a set that has drifted a degree or two out of spec over ten seasons can often be brought back for the cost of a bench job rather than a new set. We will also tell you plainly when a head is past helping.
Do I have to buy clubs from you?
No, and roughly a third of our sessions end with no purchase. The build ticket uses standard notation and any competent builder can work from it. We would rather you left with a correct sheet than an unnecessary invoice.
How often should specs be re-checked?
Once a season for anyone playing weekly, mostly because lofts and lies drift with use and turf contact. Grips are a separate clock: in this climate they glaze faster than the calendar suggests, and we generally count rounds rather than months. Juniors need checking every six months while they are still growing.
What should I bring?
The clubs you actually play, including the ones you are annoyed with. Your normal golf shoes, because footwear changes lie findings. A glove if you wear one. If you have data from another fitting, bring that too — we will compare rather than dismiss it.
Can two of us book together?
One golfer per bay at a time, but we can run two sessions side by side in the two bays if the schedule allows. Couples and playing partners do this often. Mention it on the request form so the desk can line the times up.
Do you fit juniors, and from what age?
From about seven, once a child can make a repeatable swing. Junior fitting is mostly about weight and length rather than shaft flex, and we re-check junior specs free of charge whenever they come back, because they grow out of a build faster than they wear one out.
What if my swing changes after the fitting?
Then the specs may need revisiting, and we will do that check without charging for another full session if you are inside a year. A build fits the swing you had on the day; that is a limitation of fitting in general rather than a secret.
Do you work on putters as seriously as full clubs?
More seriously than most shops, which is a low bar we are happy to clear. The putter bay has its own surface, we measure hang angle in degrees rather than using marketing labels, and lie is read from actual sole contact. Putter geometry is the subject of most of what we publish in the journal.
Call and Describe Your Last Four Rounds
The fastest way to work out which session you need is to tell somebody what has been going wrong. Two minutes on the phone usually settles it, and it occasionally ends with us telling you not to book anything yet.
The desk is staffed through posted hours and the person answering is generally one of the fitters, not a call centre.
